Senior School

St John’s Senior School is for students aged from 11 – 16 years.

We aim to:

  • Allow pupils to develop as individuals
  • Stimulate their intellectual ability, enthusiasm and imagination
  • Help pupils acquire the habit of hard work and careful study
  • Teach the value of self discipline, integrity and a concern for others
  • Develop self-confidence and independence so that pupils are well equipped to play an active part in society

The curriculum in the Senior School includes Maths, English, Science, Art, Drama, Food Technology, French, Geography, History, IT, Music, PE, RE and Spanish. Pupils in years 7 and 8 take part in Friday afternoon activities which are designed to enrich the curriculum. Activities include dry slope skiing, swimming, street dance, rock school, pottery and cookery.

Pupils benefit from workshops and assemblies taken by a wide variety of guest speakers. From year 9 onwards, pupils can take part the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme at Bronze and Silver levels. Pupils have the opportunity to apply to be a school prefect during the summer term of year 10. A wide variety of clubs and activities are offered at lunch times and after school.

Pupils are given advice and guidance to help them to prepare for life beyond St John’s. Mock interviews, CV workshops and work experience develop necessary skills. This is supported by careers advice provided by an independent advisor.
