|Nurturing everychild to exceedtheir potential|
In the Pre-Reception we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage where learning objectives are achieved through stimulating play. The Seven areas that are covered are:
At St Johns we pride ourselves on the relationship we have with every child, appreciating that they are individuals and will thrive in a caring, safe and engaging environment. We cater for every child and ensure their educational and social needs are met in a fully inclusive setting. Every child has a bond with their Key Worker but also has the benefit of learning from specialist teachers for Music and Physical Development. During these lessons the child’s ability develops and their confidence grows. The separate weekly lessons also make the transition into our Reception easier.
To enhance their learning, the Pre-Reception organise a variety of outings as well as professional visitors. We go to the local shops to learn about road safety and money. We go to Lake Meadows to feed the ducks and during activity week we visited Tropical Wings. Children will also benefit from visits from the Fire Service, a First Aider, a local animal sanctuary and professionals providing animal encounters.
Your child will have the benefit of experiencing the exceptional facilities and surroundings that St Johns has to offer. We encourage children to explore nature through activities such as walks, our vegetable patch and the living creatures. We believe that children learn best when they experience things first hand. A story about animals can be told, but a greater degree of excitement and stimulation arises from seeing and touching. We fill every walk with a sensory trail, we grow a variety of vegetables including rhubarb and marrows and have watched caterpillars transform into beautiful butterflies.
A cooperative relationship with parents/guardians is vital and we love to involve you in the children’s learning. Every week children are given a book to read at home that increases in difficulty alongside ability. Your child will undertake activities that prepare them for the rest of their education. We use a fun balance of structure and play where the children can develop and learn and a personal approach to learning ensures that children make exceptional progress, particularly with early reading, writing and numeracy skills. . The understanding of numbers is vital and developed through a variety of activities including number songs, writing and problem solving Our children are well prepared for the more formal learning that takes place in the rest of Kindergarten which ensures a smooth transition.
Before your child ventures into our Reception year, they will have been surrounded by memorable learning experiences, developed their personalities and made everlasting friendships which can be built upon for many years.
