SCHOOL CLOSURE

EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS

The decision to close the School during extreme weather conditions is not taken lightly as we know it causes many difficulties for Parents and Carers who work and it also interrupts the children's education.

However, we must consider the safety and well being of all parties as our first priority.

When making the decision to close due to snow, the following factors are taken into account:

  1. Can enough School Staff get to/from School (in time) to keep within the required Pupil to Staff ratio?
  2. Can Pupils/Staff travel to School safely without significant risk of injury?
  3. Can the School grounds be made safe to ensure that the risk of injury is low?
  4. Will the Staff who are able to get to School be able to provide effective teaching to all Pupils?

If one or more of these questions are answered 'no' the School must be closed.

We also face a dilemma in terms of deciding when to make the firm decision to close. We make the decision based on the above criteria in the context of weather forecasts and Police travel advice.

We will always try to keep you as informed as possible and ask that you check the School Website, which will be regularly updated, as well as listening to Essex Radio and BBC Essex.

We thank you in advance for your support in what can be very difficult times.
