Amazing GCSE results for Pupils of St John’s School, Billericay

In a year where the reformed GCSEs are far more challenging, St John’s School pupils have achieved amazing results in their GCSE exams. The Year 11 pupils have excelled with 93% of exams awarded at A* to C grade.

The GCSE syllabuses have been made more demanding under the supervision of the Department for Education and coursework has been replaced by final exams in all subjects. Additionally, the GCSE grading scale has been changed from alphabetical to numerical. A grade 4 is the equivalent of a C, a grade 7 is the equivalent of an A, and a grade 8 is the equivalent of an A*. An extra top grade (9) has been added in order to identify the most able pupils. Our wonderful pupils achieved 11 of these grades in subjects including French, Biology, English Language, English Literature and History.

Overall, 96% of St John’s School pupils achieved 5 or more A* to C and 24% of all grades were awarded A* and A grades. This is a fantastic result for the pupils and demonstrates how hard they have worked throughout their time at St John’s. As well as a full timetable, the pupils also attended additional revision sessions at lunch time and their efforts have certainly been rewarded.

One of the top performing pupils achieved an impressive four grade 9s, three grade 8/A* and three grade 7/A with several other pupils scoring similarly with all grades awarded at 6/B or above.

Mrs Armour, Headmistress, said, “We are absolutely thrilled that our pupils have achieved such impressive results. They have grasped the multitude of opportunities offered to them and have worked incredibly hard. We are truly proud of all that they have achieved.”

St John’s School is a co-educational independent day school in Billericay. The next Open Day is on Saturday 22nd September 2018 from 10am to 1pm.
